Each material that you select for your patio demands minimum 6 inches of compacted aggregate base Class 5. This class contains the mixture of ¾ inch rock and “fines” that help you create a solid base by filling in the spaces between the rock.
The most suitable way is to create at least three 2-inch layers of this aggregate compacted separately and put one inch of sand on the top. But if you lay extra sand the pavers may sink. Some installers can place 6 inches of base at once and compose it in a single step.
