Step Three: Placing the Urn Various objects can be used as the focal point of a circular garden, such as ceramic urns, fountains, birdbaths and decorative globes. All you need to do is to insert a circular paver in the soil in the center of the circle, making sure that it's level, and place the centerpiece object on the paver. Step Four: Filling in with Greenery Plant a row of Griselina littoralis. This shrub grows up to 8 feet tall and can help you create the screen between the yard, the garage and driveway. The rest of the yard around the circular garden should be filled with sod. For example, you can choose dwarf fescue grass because it grows well in both sun and shade.
Before you start planting the sod it is crucial to clear the surface. You should unroll the strips of sod, stagger the seams to make them less visible and trim the sod along the curves and edges to fit the yard. With the help of a lawn roller (available for $11 per day at lawn supply stores) you need to mesh the strips of sod together. It is very important to water it thoroughly. Step Five: Completing the Seating Area The seating area should be simple and don’t dominate your yard because it may detract the attention from the circular garden. It is recommended to use a black wrought iron bench and arbor, with mandevilla vines trained up the arbor. Planting: Rings of Color To complement the colors in the urn, you can add flowers in yellows, oranges, blues and whites. Designers advise to plant annuals and replace them with the change of the season in order to keep the colors fresh throughout the year. You can plant solid rings of colors around the urn, instead of a jumble of colors which may detract attention from the centerpiece of your garden. It is also possible to add ornamental cabbage with thick green foliage around the outer edge of the inner circle, flowering groundcover between the pavers to highlight the rays in the sunburst design, and an outer ring of vibrant color to make your circular garden more finished. The planting plan includes: * Lobelia (Lobelia erinus), Zones 4-8 (for the outer ring) * Alyssum (Alyssum spinosum), Zones 7-9 (between the pavers) * Pansy (Viola), Zones 4-8 * French marigold (Tagetes patula), all zones
